Special Notes: At around 8:00 PM, volunteer firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire on Leedom Way in the Newtown Crossing development. Chief 45 arrived on scene and reported smoke was visible from the dwelling. He ordered Rescue 45 to connect to a hydrant near the house and begin an attack on the fire, and called for Ladder 45 to cut open the roof for ventilation. The crew of Rescue 45 went in service with two handlines and discovered heavy fire in the basement of the dwelling. While attacking the fire, crews noticed that the basement stairs were starting to cave in, and parts of the first floor were collapsing. Due to these life threatening conditions, the interior crews evacuated the dwelling and fought the fire from the rear and front of the dwelling as the crew of Ladder 45 cut open holes in the roof. As a severe thunderstorm was occurring, firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, Lower Southampton Fire Company, Lingohocken Fire Company, Fairless Hills Fire Company, and Northampton Fire Company brought the blaze under control and spent hours performing salvage and overhaul operations to the dwelling. Crews finished operations shortly after midnight. FM-252 is investigating the cause of the blaze.
